We wear complexity like a badge of honor.

Fifty-slide decks. Sprawling dashboards tracking hundreds of KPIs. Intricate org charts with dotted lines everywhere. We tell ourselves this sophistication proves we’re serious.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth: complexity is often where confused strategies go to hide.

The Universe Runs on Simple Equations

E = mc². Three letters. One number. One operator. It explains the relationship between energy and matter—from stars to nuclear reactors.

F = ma. Force equals mass times acceleration. This equation built bridges, designed cars, and sent us to the moon.

These aren’t powerful despite their simplicity. They’re powerful because of it. They cut through noise to reveal essential reality.

Why We Choose Complexity

It feels safe. Gathering more data feels productive. “Just one more report” delays the hard decisions.

Meanwhile, the market moves. Agile competitors—unburdened by legacy complexity—steal share while you debate metric #47 on page 12.

  1. Find Your “One Thing” (Keller & Papasan): What’s the ONE thing you can do that makes everything else easier or unnecessary? If your team can’t answer instantly and unanimously, you’re too complex.
  2. The Grandma Test: Explain your strategy in three sentences to someone outside your industry. Can’t do it? You don’t understand it yet. Strip the jargon until only core value remains.
  3. Kill Vanity Metrics: Track 3-5 KPIs that actually predict your future. Ignore the rest until your core is healthy.

The Bottom Line

Nature favors elegance. The most robust systems are the simplest.

If your business feels sluggish and overwhelmed, don’t buy another software package to manage the complexity you created.

Find your E = mc². Strip away everything that obscures your essential truth.
